Tiger Woods just wrapped up a legal situation that had been weighing on him. The golf legend accepted a plea deal on Wednesday that suspended his driver’s license for five years after a March rollover crash in Florida.
President Trump, who knows Woods well, weighed in on the situation. He revealed he’d been encouraging Tiger Woods to stop driving himself for years. “I told him that a long time [ago], ‘Why don’t you get somebody to drive you?'” Trump told Fox News’ Peter Doocy. “So he’s going to have somebody drive him from now on.”
Trump called the deal “very fair” and spoke with real compassion about Woods’ ongoing physical struggles. “Look, I know Tiger, very well. He’s a great guy,” Trump shared. “He suffers great pain, great pain.”
Woods, 50, pleaded no contest to reduced charges following the crash. A breath test showed no alcohol in his system, but Woods declined a urine test. Officers found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket, according to an affidavit. For someone dealing with the kind of chronic pain that comes with an Olympic athlete memoir‘s worth of injuries, managing wellness becomes real complicated.
His girlfriend Vanessa accompanied Woods to the courthouse for the hearing. Woods kept things private, choosing not to address reporters as he left the building.
Trump expressed genuine relief that the legal matter had finally been resolved. “I’m glad,” said Trump. “I’m glad that was resolved.” Sometimes the best thing is just moving forward and focusing on what matters—whether that’s personal wellness or finding peace after a difficult chapter.
