Let’s break down what led here. Fat Joe, born Joseph Antonio Cartagena, filed the defamation lawsuit against Dixon and Blackburn back in April 2025. Dixon fired back with a $20 million countersuit. Fat Joe has been denying all the allegations.
Things got messy real quick when U.S. Magistrate Judge Jennifer E. Willis sanctioned Blackburn last month over comments he made during Dixon’s February deposition. Willis called out his “homophobic, transphobic, and sexualized comments” as behavior that literally “shock[ed] the conscience.” That’s heavy language from a judge.
Some of the remarks Willis cited? Blackburn asked Dixon, “What date is your transition surgery?” During another moment, Dixon said something like, “I could take you down with my left hand,” and Blackburn allegedly responded, “Everybody could take you down” and “Very easily.” These exchanges show a real lack of respect and professionalism that no courtroom should tolerate.
Blackburn tried to explain it away by saying medication affected his behavior, but Willis wasn’t having it—his medical records didn’t back that up. The judge saw through it.
And there’s more. Fat Joe’s legal team accused Blackburn of using AI-generated citations in court filings. His attorneys called for additional sanctions, claiming he had fabricated or misrepresented legal authority. That’s a serious accusation in any legal proceeding.
