A 63-year-old driver crashed his car through the front gate of Beyoncé and Jay-Z‘s East Hampton estate this week, landing himself in police custody. According to authorities, the man drove at high speed up the driveway and smashed through the mechanical gates, causing significant damage to the property.
Officers say the driver failed to brake when approaching the gates. His vehicle was impounded, and he was arrested on the scene, then transported to Stoney Brook Hospital for evaluation.
Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunn, one of the responding officers, told Page Six that the man appeared “confused” during the incident. She noted he made no threats and didn’t mention any names. “It could just be chance he picked that house if he was having a medical issue,” Dunn said.
The circumstances were unusual. Before arriving at Beyoncé and Jay-Z‘s property, the man had stopped at another nearby residence asking for a woman who didn’t live there. Police noted the pattern suggested possible confusion or a medical emergency rather than a targeted incident.
The man was charged with felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor criminal trespass. It remains unclear whether the power couple was home at the time of the incident.
