Remembering Teresa Graves: A Trailblazing Icon in Television History
Born on January 10, 1948, and passing away far too soon on October 10, 2002, Teresa Graves was a multi-talented actress and singer whose legacy is best remembered through her groundbreaking role as Christie Love, an undercover police detective, in the ABC crime-drama series Get Christie Love! (1974–1975).
Graves’ portrayal of Christie Love made her one of the first Black women to star as the lead in an hour-long network drama. Her charismatic performance and fierce determination to bring justice to her on-screen world resonated with audiences and paved the way for greater representation of Black women in leading television roles.
