The fallout between Damon Dash and Jay-Z? Yeah, that was prime-time public drama, folks! It was a tangled mess of business beef and egos doing battle. As Roc-A-Fella Records blew up, ownership squabbles, creative clashes, and management face-offs strained their brotherhood. Sadly, the friendship took a hit right along with the professional vibe. But hold up – Dame recently stepped up to shut down rumors he was ever trying to mack on Queen Bey while she was wifed up to Jay. Let’s get into what he had to say.
Damon Dash said he never tried to pursue a relationship with Beyoncé during her marriage to Jay-Z
Jay-Z and Beyoncé, a love story that started hush-hush back in the early 2000s. Even though the rumor mill was spinning, they kept their romance low-key, letting collabs like “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” do the talking. Their connection only grew stronger, blending personal and professional lives. In ’08, they sealed the deal with a wedding that had everyone buzzing.
Back in ’04, Damon Dash and Jay-Z’s relationship took a hit that it never really recovered from. When Jay-Z took the President seat at Def Jam, it basically signaled the end of Roc-A-Fella Records as we knew it. Fast forward to September 2025, Damon chopped it up with The Art of Dialogue about whether he ever tried to holler at Beyoncé while she was married to Jay-Z. Apparently, that question came from some comments made by ex-Roc-A-Fella videographer Choke No Joke.
“I would never try to talk to another man’s wife,” Damon made clear. “I mean, I ran into her once, and I think I got her number at a Victoria’s Secret show, but to me, she was like a little girl. So I was going after Gisele [Bundchen]. Giselle, everybody — Naomi Campbell was there. She hadn’t realized her potential yet. I honestly was like, I’ll call you and talk to you. But that was a year or two before …. I never tried to talk to her after that.”
Damon Dash said several women would ‘choose’ him over Jay-Z
Still on The Art of Dialogue, Damon copped to never chasing after a woman already on Jay-Z’s radar. But when it came down to choices, he claimed women were picking him “a lot” of the time.
“I never chased his chicks, but sometimes, if there was a choice, they would choose me a lot,” Damon said. “And sometimes, they would choose him.”
Damon then made it clear he wouldn’t have messed with Aaliyah if she and Jay-Z had ever been a thing. He and Aaliyah were together back in 2000, and it was serious until her tragic passing in ’01.
“I can’t walk in a room and they got that connection,” he clarified. In the end, Damon said Aaliyah “chose” him over Jay-Z.
He noted that he doesn’t ‘really’ know what Beyoncé ‘looks like’
Damon even went as far as saying he doesn’t really pay attention to Beyoncé, because her whole vibe – the music, the dancing – often puts her in a “sexual light” that he prefers to ignore.
“I don’t even listen to Beyoncé records because I don’t want to want to f*** her,” he said in the interview. “I don’t want to see her shake her body. … I’ve never … I don’t even really know what she looks like, you know what I’m saying? I don’t really look at her; I don’t listen to her music.”
