Desiigner, the Brooklyn rapper behind the hit “Panda,” is facing serious allegations after being arrested in South Carolina on a domestic violence charge. The incident has reignited conversation around accountability and troubling behavior in hip-hop.
According to the Horry County Sheriff’s Office, the artist—whose real name is Sidney Royel Selby III—was taken into custody Monday in connection to an alleged incident from earlier this month. He was released on a $1,500 bond. Desiigner has not publicly commented on the arrest.
Details from the police report paint a troubling picture. Authorities say the alleged victim—identified as the mother of Desiigner’s child—told officers the situation escalated shortly after he arrived home on March 2. She claims the rapper came in visibly angry, yelling and throwing car keys before things allegedly turned physical.
According to her statement, when she attempted to leave to retrieve luggage from the airport, Desiigner allegedly snatched the keys from her—tearing her sweatpants in the process.
The situation reportedly intensified when she says he grabbed their child and placed the child into a car seat. When she tried to intervene, she alleges he threw her to the ground, resulting in minor scratches to her arm and lower back.
Police noted that the child did not witness the alleged altercation.
The woman also claimed there may be video footage of the incident, but told officers she was unable to access the home’s camera system at the time.
By the time authorities arrived, Desiigner had already left the scene. He was later arrested and charged with third-degree domestic violence.
This isn’t the rapper’s first legal issue in recent years. Back in 2023, he faced charges related to an indecent exposure incident on an international flight returning to the United States.
