Druski‘s saxophone gag at the BET Awards hit all the wrong notes with one of hip hop’s biggest power players. TDE President Terrence “Punch” Henderson says the comedian did Druski and Doechii wrong, and he wasn’t shy about calling it out.
The Top Dawg Entertainment boss took to X to blast the host after his running “wrap it up” bit cut short his artists’ acceptance speech Sunday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The bit had a saxophone player literally drowning them out mid-speech.

When SZA and Doechii took the stage to accept the BET Her Award for “girl, get up,” saxophonist Kenneth Whalum suddenly appeared and launched into a full musical performance directly over their remarks. There was no way to hear what they were trying to say.

Punch wasn’t having it. He fired off a post on X that he later deleted: “This n**** Druski weird for that Sax stunt.” The message was clear, even if briefly.
To be fair, Druski gave fair warning during his opening monologue.
He’d joked there would be no lengthy acceptance speeches or “struggle stories” at this year’s ceremony. Winners got 30 seconds, he said, before Whalum would start playing them off the stage. He even gave the crowd a preview of what it would sound like.
Apparently SZA and Doechii didn’t realize he meant it literally.
The whole thing reveals a familiar tension at awards shows. Hosts want to keep things snappy and entertaining. But artists and their teams want room to actually speak. Druski went for the joke and prioritized pacing. Punch saw it differently, viewing the saxophone stunt as disrespectful to his artists’ moment.
Whether it was funny or frustrating probably depends on where you sit. But one thing’s settled: Punch wasn’t amused.
