Jaylen Brown Confronts Stephen A Smith On Air

Jaylen Brown is further igniting his ongoing beef with sportscaster Stephen A. Smith, and during a livestream on Twitch, the Boston Celtics star ripped into the ESPN commentator after Smith questioned Brown’s streaming activity. The tension between these two has been building, and Brown isn’t holding back anymore about what he sees as poor journalism.

“What type of journalism is this?” Brown said while reacting to the clip. “Jayson Tatum hasn’t been on my stream, and this is what we’re talking about on First Take?” Brown also questioned why Tatum appeared on ESPN but not on his stream. It’s clear he sees this as clickbait rather than real sports analysis, the kind of Jaylen Brown conversations that deserve actual integrity in media coverage.

“What does that have to do with basketball?” he said before adding, “This is why, respectfully, a lot of people say, ‘F–k Stephen A.'” The frustration is real. Brown recently accused NBA referees of having an “agenda” against him during late-season games against the Philadelphia 76ers. Smith then stirred things up, telling Brown he should “stay quiet.” But Brown wasn’t about to take that sitting down.

“He just said I need to be quiet? For who?” Brown fired back at the time. “Stephen A, Stephen B, Stephen C. My offer still stands. You want me to be quiet and stop streaming? I want you to be quiet and get off these networks.” This exchange shows Brown’s commitment to speaking his truth and calling out what he sees as performative media narratives instead of substance.

Brown also accused Smith of pushing clickbait instead of real journalism and called for more sports media personalities with actual integrity. In today’s media landscape, it’s refreshing to see athletes like Brown demanding better—pushing back against narratives that don’t serve the culture and advocating for commentary that actually matters.
