Okay, so Jeezy is really getting candid about his divorce from Jeannie Mai. He’s dropped some serious gems on what he learned and what he’d do differently if he ever walked down the aisle again. His advice? Consider “premarital counseling” or, even bolder, just skip the whole marriage thing and opt for a “life partner” instead.
The Snowman himself sat down on Bishop T.D. Jakes’ ‘NXT Chapter Podcast‘ back on December 8th. Jeezy wasn’t holding back, talking about everything from his past traumas to his music journey, fame, time in prison, and what it meant to become a man. This multi-platinum artist, author, entrepreneur, and cultural icon truly kept it 100 during the entire conversation.
He opened up about some deep childhood experiences, detailing how he navigated trauma and hustled to provide for his family as young as 14. Jeezy recalled losing friends and witnessing violence, which forced him to compartmentalize his emotions just to survive.
But it wasn’t all struggle. He also shared how traveling the world and meeting unexpected mentors helped him evolve into the successful businessman we know today.
Jeezy & Jeannie Mai: The Story of Their Marriage & Divorce
Back on that podcast, Jeezy delved into his personal journey, touching on his traumas, mental health, leadership, and, of course, his very public marriage and subsequent divorce from his daughter’s mother, Jeannie Mai. Many remember back in 2019 when Mai, then 46, officially announced she was dating Jeezy, 48.
Their love story quickly moved forward. By April 2020, they were engaged, and in 2021, they tied the knot in a beautiful, intimate, and COVID-safe ceremony right at their Atlanta home. Not long after, Mai started IVF treatments and soon announced her pregnancy. Their daughter, Monaco Mai Jenkins, was born in December 2021 and is set to turn 4 on December 30th.
But the fairytale took a dramatic turn in September 2023 when Jeezy filed for divorce from Jeannie Mai. The news sent shockwaves, and the couple stayed in the headlines as their split became a messy affair in divorce and family court. Allegations of abuse, cheating, and child gatekeeping, alongside other smear campaigns from both sides and their legal teams, made it a very public battle. Finally, in June 2024, Mai and Jeezy’s divorce was settled, though the details of the agreement remain undisclosed.
“I learned I was a great husband—I can be. I got a beautiful daughter out of the situation, so there is no regrets there. But, I learned a lot about myself. I learned that there’s things that I continue to work on. I learned about my preferences for things. The type of space that I need. The type of moments that I need to decompress about certain things. And this just, unselfish nature that I was selfish in my prior life. And I think just going forward in life, it just taught me how to give someone else grace and actually listen to understand rather than just listen to reply.”
Jeezy made it clear that if he ever considered marriage again, premarital counseling would be a non-negotiable step. In fact, he ultimately suggested he’d prefer a “life partner” over another marriage.
