Kanye West is attempting to prevent a jury from hearing evidence about his past antisemitic social media posts in an ongoing discrimination lawsuit, according to court filings obtained by BlkCosmo.
The case centers on Benjamin Provo, who alleges he was wrongfully terminated from Donda Academy, the school founded by the rapper, due to race-based discrimination and retaliation stemming from his hairstyle. In his legal response, Kanye West argues that his old social media posts are irrelevant to the employment discrimination claims and should be excluded from trial.
Provo’s legal team submitted a 919-page report documenting the problematic posts. Among them is an Instagram image showing what appears to be a Nazi-style robe, captioned “Outfit of the day.”
The filing also references tweets containing statements like “I’m a Nazi. Lets see if yall give that money back. I love Hitler. Now what bitches” and “I used to f*** employees in my office.”
Provo’s 2021 discrimination complaint alleges that he and other Black employees at Donda Academy experienced unfair treatment compared to their white counterparts. He contends that West frequently yelled at Black staff members while showing more patience with white employees. The lawsuit further claims that West banned books authored by civil rights leaders, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Provo believes he was specifically targeted for his dreadlocks. The retaliation, he claims, intensified after he complained about the discriminatory environment.
West has denied all allegations. The case is set for trial later this year.
