The 39-year-old rapper, in response to questions about his relationship with the 26-year-old Tejada, decided to compare older women to “used cars” with too much mileage. We’re not even going to unpack all the layers of problematic in that statement, but, like, *come on, bruh*.
The internet, of course, went into a frenzy. Some folks are riding with Gates, praising his supposed “honesty.” But a whole lot of us are calling out the blatant misogyny and disrespect, especially considering his recent divorce.
After splitting with Dreka Gates, his wife of nearly two decades, the Louisiana-bred rapper has been all over social media flaunting his relationship with the Dominican influencer. Public displays of affection and flirty exchanges abound. Good for him? But at what cost?
While some fans applaud Gates for “keeping it real,” others are urging him to check himself and show some much-needed respect to all women, particularly in light of his own history of public controversies and relationship drama. It’s giving… tone deaf.
True to form, the rapper seemed unbothered by the uproar. He followed up the controversy with a cryptic message on his Instagram Story: “Ain’t no hate in my heart, I just like what I like.” Sure, Jan.
Whether you chalk it up to toxic masculinity or just good ol’ bravado, Kevin Gates sure knows how to keep the internet buzzing. And honestly? We’re tired. Let’s hope he puts this same energy into his music and leaves the messy comments in 2024.
