Like her superstar daughter Beyonce aboard the ‘Cowboy Carter World Tour,’ businesswoman and fashion designer Tina Knowles has one of the hottest tickets on the live circuit thanks to her ‘Matriarch‘ book tour.
Celebrating her New York Times’ best-selling memoir of the same name, the global jaunt pulled into the Smart Financial Centre in her hometown of Houston on Monday (May 5) and boasted special guests Yolanda Adams, “bonus daughter” Kelly Rowland, and a surprise reunion with her ex-husband Mathew Knowles.
When not wowing the audience with stories about raising their daughters Beyonce and Solange, Mathew and Tina reflected fondly on the success of Destiny’s Child and even offered the crowd some words of encouragement.
“Cause both of us, neither one of us has every bad mouthed each other, ever and I would never do that,” said Tina—who was married to Mathew from 1980 to 2011. “And I said, ‘You know what we should do to show this united front, you know you should come down and come on stage.’”
Days later (May 7), Mathew took to social media to share his appreciation for the invitation by delivering a heartfelt tribute to Tina.
“Thanks, Houston, for such a warm reception when I walked on and off the stage. Thank you, Kelly, for your very kind words on your introduction,” he started the message posted to his 99,000 followers on Instagram. “Tina, so proud of your accomplishment of being a New York Times best-selling author, which isn’t easy to come by. I will always love you as the mother of our daughters, Solange and Beyoncé.”
