Losing a game is tough, but for some so-called “fans,” it’s an excuse to be downright hateful. In today’s digital world, that hate often spills over from the coaches and players to their families, who have nothing to do with the final score.

This ugly reality recently hit home for the family of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. After a tough 25-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, his wife, Kiya Tomlin, revealed that their daughter, Harlyn, received a vile email containing a racist remark and a message that read: “I hope your dad f****** dies.”

Kiya shared a screenshot of the message on her Instagram Stories with the caption, “Just a typical Monday after a loss.” She then addressed the person who sent it directly, rising above the hate with incredible grace. “It truly sounds as though you are in need of some positivity and inspiration in your life,” she wrote. “We aim to offer messages of hope, inspiration, and motivation that might encourage you to move beyond being a racist sideline critic and focus on making a relevant, positive contribution in your own life.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first time Kiya has had to deal with such venom. Her Instagram comments are often flooded with rage after a Steelers loss, with people demanding her husband be fired. But the family continues to handle these situations with class, knowing the unfortunate reality of the business.

Through it all, the Tomlins stand strong. They know that when a team coached by Mike Tomlin wins, the hateful messages stop, but their resilience in the face of such ugliness remains constant.
