BGN sits down with the brilliant minds behind the film Steal Away. And trust us, you’re gonna want to hear about this one.

We’re talking to the stars themselves: Angourie Rice, who plays Fanny, and Mallori Johnson, bringing Cecile to life. Plus, the visionary director, Clement Virgo, who’s woven this incredible story together.

Steal Away isn’t your typical period piece. Imagine an alternate world, a blend of the antebellum South with the grit of occupied Europe and the spice of Algiers. That’s where we find Fanny (Angourie Rice), a young woman living a life of privilege, until Cecile (Mallori Johnson), a refugee from the Congo, arrives seeking shelter. Things get complicated when Cecile and Rufus, the estate’s gardener, spark a romance. And Fanny? Well, she becomes captivated by Cecile, leading to a whirlwind of desire, jealousy, and some seriously shocking truths about their reality.

Jamie Broadnax, our very own, is doing the interviewing honors.

Steal Away had its grand debut at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Remember the name; this one’s going to be big!
