SZA Breaks Her Silence On Rumored Nicki Minaj Feud
Three months after Nicki Minaj seemingly threw shade at SZA’s looks and achievements, the Grammy-winning singer is setting the record straight. In a recent GQ interview, SZA expressed her confusion about the alleged feud.
“I don’t know her,” SZA told GQ. “We have no connection. There’s no backstory or through line narrative. It was just like, ‘Roc Nation’…. I don’t know where it came from. It’s not my place to correct a narrative I have nothing to do with.” She added, “It was a little strange. Very like, ‘Why?’ But also, ‘I guess.’”
How The Drama Between SZA And Nicki Minaj Started
Back in July, the tension appeared out of nowhere. Nicki Minaj seemed to take shots at SZA after the “Kill Bill” singer voiced frustrations with her label. Nicki tweeted, without naming SZA directly, “Go draw your freckles back on bookie.”
In another post, Nicki doubled down, throwing shade at SZA’s music success and questioning the integrity of her chart-topping album SOS.
“B—h put out a whole new album as a deluxe to an already existing album that was out for like a year or 2 so the original album could break records,” Nicki wrote. “Like what in the insecure lack of morals & integrity you doing? I thought she was like a real artist? Girl bye.”
Still, SZA didn’t let the online chatter get to her. Instead of firing back, she took the high road, letting folks know she’s unbothered by the negativity.
“I get bullied by millions online every day then step my ass out onna packed stadium tour where ppl show me REAL love. IN REAL LIFE,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “My parents are healthy and I’m the most successful I ever been. GET SOME F–KING PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL !!!”
SZA Says She’s Not Here For Drama, Especially Between “Grown-Ass Men”
While SZA’s name has been caught up in more than one celebrity conflict this year, she’s keeping her peace — especially when it comes to the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Having worked with both artists, the singer told GQ she’s staying out of it.
“It was something between two grown-ass men, so why would I insert myself between something between two grown-ass men, you know?” SZA explained. “And I feel like that’s how everybody felt—with the exception of people who didn’t feel that way.”
She continued, “I didn’t really have any stake, per se. Obviously, I love Kendrick. I’m signed to TDE. That’s my family. Obviously, I’ve known Drake for so long and we have a beautiful rapport. And, obviously, it’s always unfortunate when the unfortunate occurs.”
SZA Focuses On Love, Not Internet Chaos
SZA’s response shows she’s rising above internet beefs. She’s prioritizing her art, her fans, and her peace. Her success speaks for itself. With her SOS tour selling out arenas and her music breaking streaming records, she’s clearly focused on her blessings.
Her calm, grounded perspective sets her apart in an industry that can thrive on drama. While fans debate whether Nicki’s posts were about her, SZA’s sticking to her truth, and winning.
