Instead, imagine walking through bedrooms in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, encountering work by Black women artists in rooms devoted to themes such as protection, nurturing, memory and water. Curated by Jade Flint and artist Taylor Thomas, and presented by Long Gallery Harlem, A House Is Not a Home brings together 25 Black women artists to examine America's 250-year history through the women whose labor, care and creativity helped build it.

The Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival is well underway, with Black stars making their way to the island to catch the best of Black cinema, attend fascinating panels, and reconnect with friends during the final weeks of summer. From cinematographers and award-winning costume designers to filmmakers, athletes, and entertainers, the festival has attracted an impressive lineup of influential figures celebrating African American contributions to film and culture.

The 2026 Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival has officially kicked off, and it's already looking like a beautifully Black affair! From sneak peeks of highly anticipated films to panel discussions with big stars, this year's event is off to a fantastic start. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood premiered a sneak peek of her upcoming film, Children of Blood and Bone, and participated in a panel discussion alongside The View cohost Sunny Hostin and star Thuso Mbedu. The film is slated to drop in January 2027. Filmmaker Nneka Onuorah and acting legend Laverne Cox also spoke on GLAAD's Reel Change panel about Black film and culture.
