During a recent episode of the Two T’s in a Pod podcast, Teddi Mellencamp, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, explained that she initially thought she was just dealing with the flu. The situation quickly escalated when she woke up covered in painful sores across her body.
“I thought I had the flu,” Teddi said. “Then I woke up and my whole body was covered in these painful spots. It wasn’t even like a rash. It felt like sores everywhere.”
Concerned, Teddi went to urgent care, expecting doctors to tell her she was having an allergic reaction. Instead, medical staff urged her to head straight to the emergency room.
At the hospital, doctors determined she had developed Stevens‑Johnson syndrome, a rare and potentially life‑threatening condition often triggered by medications. The disorder can cause blistering and damage to the skin and mucous membranes.
“It was in my mouth, around my eyes, just everywhere,” she said. “I couldn’t swallow.”
Doctors treated Teddi with steroid injections and antibiotics before keeping her in the hospital for observation. She said physicians wanted to closely monitor her recovery.
After several days, her symptoms improved, and she was able to return home.
