Legal cases in the entertainment industry continue to make headlines, and British entertainer Yung Filly’s situation is no exception. A judge has granted him permission to return to London while he awaits his retrial on rape allegations scheduled for next year.
Judge Linda Black acknowledged the complexity of the upcoming proceedings in Perth, recognizing that even expedited trials can face unexpected delays. “It seems to me it is appropriate to return to his home country until he is needed for his retrial,” she said. Yung Filly, whose legal name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was convicted last month of two assault charges following an encounter with a woman at a Perth hotel in September 2024. The jury found him not guilty on three rape counts but couldn’t reach verdicts on three others—charges prosecutors plan to pursue in the retrial.
The 31-year-old had been touring Australia, performing in Sydney and Melbourne before the incident in Perth. His new bail conditions are strict: he must return to Britain by August 31 and come back to Australia 10 days before the retrial begins. He’ll also need to surrender his passport within 24 hours of his return.
Under the terms of his release, Barrientos cannot contact the woman involved or key prosecution witnesses. He’s also prohibited from making any public statements about the case. Sentencing on his assault convictions will follow the retrial.
