Joy Reid Blasts ‘Deportable’ Nicki Minaj For ’Sucking Up’ And ‘Kissing Donald Trump’s A**’ In Order To ‘Protect Herself, Her Brother, And Her Husband’

TV host Joy Reid isn’t holding back, calling out rap superstar Nicki Minaj as “deportable.” Reid alleges that Minaj is “sucking up” to President Donald Trump to protect herself, her brother, and her husband from their various legal woes.

This fiery critique came during Reid’s appearance on Angela Yee‘s ‘Way Up With Angela Yee’ radio show. Reid’s comments follow a series of highly publicized moves by Nicki Minaj, born Onika Maraj, including her recent appearance alongside Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk at TPUSA’s “AmericaFest” event in Arizona this past December.

Before that, Minaj made headlines for praising Trump on X after he issued threats to Nigerian officials regarding the persecution of Christians. This public support even led to a United Nations invitation, where she later delivered a speech. Then came the surprise at TPUSA’s AmFest, where she openly lauded Trump and Vice President JD Vance, much to the shock of her Barbz and beyond.

Minaj’s alignment with the Trump administration reportedly led to a significant drop in her Instagram following. Joy Reid herself initially amplified these reports, jokingly commenting:

“Ten million followers lost, but hey, at least she now has her #maga and #turningpointusa friends plus the #jeffreyepstein defenders who are cool with pedos … all of whom will I’m sure any day now will become huge fans of woman-performed hip hop and formerly undocumented Trinidadian immigrants (so long as they’re not in fishing boats near Venezuela.) This should all work out perfectly for #nicki …. Let’s see if Donald comes through with those pardons. #magaconsequences.”

The rapper also faced multiple petitions, garnering millions of signatures, demanding her deportation back to Trinidad and Tobago.

Joy Reid Slams ‘Deportable’ Nicki Minaj And Claims She’s ‘Kissing Donald Trump’s A**’ To ‘Protect Herself, Her Brother And Husband’

Weeks after her initial jabs, Joy Reid doubled down on her criticism of Minaj’s political leanings. On Angela Yee’s January 12 show, Reid claimed Minaj, an undocumented immigrant at age 5, is “deportable.” Reid suggested Minaj is “sucking up” and “kissing Trump’s a**” purely to shield her brother, Jelani Maraj, and husband, Kenneth Petty, from their serious legal predicaments.

To be clear: Minaj’s brother, Jelani Maraj, was sentenced in January 2020 to 25 years in prison after being convicted of predatory sexual assault against a child and child endangerment. Her husband, Kenneth Petty, pleaded guilty to attempted rape in 1995, serving four years, and is a registered sex offender in his state of residence.

During her conversation with Angela Yee, Joy Reid didn’t mince words about Minaj’s allegiance to Donald Trump:

“Listen, speaking of undocumented people, this lady came here and by the way — we share a birthday, so it’s a little weird that we always kind of—we’ve had before. So, I was a fan of her music. I think she’s a musical—she’s talented. I mean, you know, like Kanye West. These are talented musicians. Nobody should never listen to anything she says other than just her music. This lady came here 5-years-old undocumented. She understands what it’s like to be undocumented. Grew up in this city. She’s deportable because she definitely was undocumented originally. She is a Trinidadian. She didn’t say anything about the killing of those Trinidadian fisherman. I’m quite sure the people in Trini noticed that she doesn’t seem to care about her people. And the idea of sucking up to Trump not long after you said you don’t want a Melania [Trump] because you don’t want a weak woman, right? You don’t want somebody that’s just sucking up to the president. And after you criticized his deportation policies yourself, now all of a sudden you’re kissing his a**?”

When Yee pressed, asking what Reid thought was happening, Reid offered her candid theory:

“I think she has a brother and a husband who got some serious legal issues around pedophilia, particularly, her brother — who’s serving, what, 25 to life, or something for the violation of a child, or of children. And I think she’s thinking, ‘You know how I can get a pardon? I’ll go be friends with the Turning Point USA people. I’ll kiss Trump’s a** and Vance’s a** and maybe I’ll get pardons and maybe I won’t get deported.’ I mean, my cynical self says that she’s trying to protect herself, her brother, and her husband from the administration by kissing their a**.”
