Justin Timberlake Files Lawsuit to Block Release of Drunk Driving Arrest Bodycam Footage

Justin Timberlake has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the town of Sag Harbor in Long Island, New York, in an effort to prevent the public release of body camera footage from his drunk driving arrest.

According to Page Six, Timberlake is seeking an order from a judge in Suffolk County Supreme Court to block the video’s release. The filing argues that the footage is tied to a Freedom of Information Act request submitted by members of the media. Timberlake contends that the video captures him in what court documents describe as a “vulnerable state during a roadside encounter with law enforcement.”

    What the Lawsuit Claims

According to the legal documents, the bodycam footage allegedly shows intimate details of Timberlake’s “physical appearance, demeanor, speech, and conduct” during the field sobriety test, his arrest, and his confinement

His attorney, Michael Del Piano, argues that releasing the video could cause “irreparable” harm to the singer’s personal and professional reputation. The lawsuit further claims that releasing the footage would serve “no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government.”

The FOIA Angle and Public Interest Debate

Freedom of Information laws are designed to ensure government transparency. When police bodycam footage is requested, officials must weigh privacy concerns against the public’s right to know.

In this case, Timberlake’s legal team appears to argue that the footage would not provide insight into law enforcement operations. Instead, they suggest it would primarily expose a celebrity during a personal low point.
