Max B Released! Harlem Rapper Home From Prison

Harlem’s very own Max B — Charly Wingate to those in the know — is finally free! Our legendary “Wave God” walked out of New Jersey’s Northern State Prison on November 9, 2025, closing a long and challenging chapter before his highly anticipated comeback.

Talk about perfect timing! Max’s release landed just one day after his day-one friend and collaborator, French Montana, celebrated his 41st. The vibes were already high, and this made it even more special. The internet blew up with videos capturing the raw, emotional reunion outside the prison gates. French was there, arms wide open, as Max stepped into freedom to cheers, hugs, and the shout heard ’round the world: “The Wave is back, baby!”

For those just tuning in, Max B had been incarcerated since 2009, following a conviction for aggravated manslaughter linked to a robbery gone wrong back in ’06. But in 2016, the universe showed a little love, and his original 75-year sentence was dramatically reduced, setting the stage for this week’s epic return.

Now 47, Max B is wasting no time getting back to the music. Word on the street is the Harlem rapper has already locked in his first New York performance and is itching to hit the studio. New music and fire collaborations are supposedly on the horizon, so stay tuned!

French Montana, clearly overjoyed, shared a heartfelt message:

“CANT MAKE THIS UP ! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B DAY ! HAMDULILLAH WALKED IT DOWN ! NO MORE FREE YOU 🌊🌊🌊”

Fellow artists and fans are all celebrating Max’s release, calling it a monumental moment for New York hip-hop. The “wavy” movement creator’s impact is undeniable. You can still hear echoes of Max B’s influence in the sounds of artists like A$AP Mob and Drake.

Now that the Wave God is back in our midst, the streets—and the entire music industry—are watching with bated breath. The question is: what wave will Max B bring next?
