MelaninCon, an annual conference in Washington D.C. aimed at fostering economic empowerment, networking, and professional development for Black professionals and entrepreneurs, is scheduled to take place on April 25, 2025. Organized by Donovan Woodberry, a Spring 2014 initiate of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi at the University of Louisville, the event seeks to provide a platform for collaboration, innovation, and cultural pride.

The conference will feature high-profile speakers, business expos, professional development opportunities, and networking events designed to encourage growth and success within the Black business community. Panel discussions will cover various topics, including thriving in the Black business landscape, breaking barriers in technology, and maintaining mental health for entrepreneurs.

MelaninCon 2025 will include the ScholarPitch Competition, a collaborative initiative with Venture for T.H.E.M., offering $8,000 in financial support to exceptional HBCU scholars. During the live competition, students will present their ideas, projects, or initiatives to a panel of judges and an audience. The evaluations will focus on leadership, impact, academic excellence, career aspirations, and passion.

Additionally, the MelaninCon HBCU Student Sponsorship Initiative will provide 50 students with free access to the conference. This initiative aims to connect students with industry leaders, mentorship opportunities, and career resources that can advance their professional journeys.

According to the organizers, mental health and wellness are key focus areas at MelaninCon 2025, with sessions dedicated to supporting Black entrepreneurs and professionals. A notable panel, “Prioritizing Mental Health While Building Black Businesses,” will feature speakers such as Dr. Rochelle Thompson, D’Shawn Harris, and Andromeda Peters Osam.
