Paris Jackson Opens Up About Health Struggles Caused by Past Drug Use — “It Ruined My Life”
Paris Jackson, daughter of the iconic Michael Jackson, is keeping it real about the long-term effects of past substance use on her body.
In a recent video, the 27-year-old revealed she has a perforated septum – a small hole in the cartilage between her nostrils. She’s attributed this to her earlier struggles with drugs.
“I Have a Really Loud Whistle”
Addressing some fans who’ve noticed a faint whistling sound when she breathes, Paris explained: “I realized I never addressed this and it can sometimes be very noticeable. I have a really loud whistle because you can hear it when I breathe through my nose, and that is because I have what is called a perforated septum.”
She even demonstrated, showing the small hollow area inside her nostril using a light.
Clarifying the difference between a perforated septum and a deviated one, she matter-of-factly tied hers to her past drug use, warning her followers:
“Don’t do drugs, kids. I don’t recommend it because it ruined my life.”

What It Means
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a perforated septum is a hole in the tissue/bone between the nostrils. It can cause nasal whistling, bleeding, congestion, and even changes to the nose’s shape.
Causes include injury, chemical exposure, autoimmune conditions, or substance misuse – something Paris acknowledged experiencing.
She’s lived with it since about age 20, finding it challenging sometimes, especially in the recording studio.
She even joked, “I can stick a spaghetti noodle through my nose and have it make an arch shape out the other.”
Having recently celebrated almost six years of sobriety, Paris isn’t planning on surgery to fix the issue.
“You have to take pills when you do a surgery that gnarly,” she said, “and I don’t want to mess with that.”
Instead, she’s prioritizing her recovery and peace of mind over appearances.
Her fans have shown a lot of support for her honesty. One user wrote, “Paris Jackson’s transparency is so refreshing. She’s not glamorizing anything — she’s showing what real healing looks like.”
Owning Her Story
Growing up in the public eye, Paris has become known for her authenticity and openness about mental health and recovery.
This latest revelation just reinforces that image – a young woman learning from her past, standing in her truth, and using her voice to potentially help others steer clear of similar pain.
As one fan put it:
“She survived it, she’s sober, and she’s thriving. That’s strength — and that’s real.”
