Tupac held tight to the street code that defined his public persona, refusing to identify his shooter to police even as he lay wounded. Instead, he promised his crew they would handle it themselves.
During opening statements in Duane “Keefe D” Davis’ murder trial, former Las Vegas Metro Police Officer Garry Dale testified about what happened in those critical moments after the shooting. Dale was in the ambulance with Tupac on September 7, 1996, and he asked the rapper repeatedly who had shot him.

Tupac never answered. Instead, he told Dale that he and his crew would “take care of it” themselves, signaling that street justice would be the response.
That chance never came. Tupac spent six days on life support after arriving at the hospital before dying on September 13, 1996.

Keefe D was arrested in 2023 in connection with the killing. Prosecutors say he orchestrated the shooting in Vegas, though they don’t claim he pulled the trigger.
Over the years, Keefe D discussed his involvement in interviews and with police during immunity deals, seemingly confident about his role in one of hip-hop’s most infamous unsolved cases.

A conviction could mean life in prison.
