N.O.R.E. is facing a sexual assault lawsuit filed by Carmen Bryan, who alleges the rapper attacked her at a New York nightclub during the 1990s. The accusation adds to a growing wave of decades-old claims resurfacing against figures in hip-hop and entertainment. According to court documents obtained by multiple outlets, Bryan claims that N.O.R.E. (real name Victor Santiago) approached her while visibly intoxicated and committed an act of nonconsensual digital penetration in front of her friends. She says she begged him to stop, but he physically overpowered her until other clubgoers intervened.
The incident allegedly didn’t end in the club. Bryan describes running out in tears while Santiago followed her into the street. She claims he initially didn’t recognize her, demanding “Don’t you know who I am?” Once under the streetlights, recognition set in. Bryan alleges he then said, “Carm, I didn’t know it was you. You’re always doing something different with your hair.” According to the lawsuit, Bryan confided in Jay-Z about the assault. She claims the rapper was protective of her and even threatened to confront Santiago personally, though she asked him not to. Weeks after the incident, at a joint Father’s Day and birthday party for her daughter Destiny (whom she shares with Nas), Bryan says Santiago attempted an apology.
Bryan remained silent for decades. What prompted her to speak up now? She says witnessing Cassie’s lawsuit against Diddy in late 2023 triggered painful memories and gave her courage. “Learning of that filing triggered Ms. Bryan’s own traumatic memories of Santiago’s assault,” the complaint states. In her filing, Bryan emphasizes the compounded damage of public humiliation. She writes: “It was not only the physical violation. It was being grabbed, overpowered, and sexually humiliated in front of friends and strangers, in the orbit of an industry where women were often expected to absorb male misconduct in silence.”
The lawsuit indicates Bryan attempted to settle privately with Santiago in March of this year, but he denied the allegations. She’s now seeking compensatory damages along with additional compensation for emotional distress and mental anguish. Santiago has not publicly responded to the claims.
