Tory Lanez‘s marriage will remain legally intact after a Los Angeles judge dismissed his wife Raina Chassagne’s divorce case. It’s a surprising turn in what seemed like a straightforward split.
Court records show Judge Nicole M. Heeseman dismissed Chassagne’s petition in July after the former couple failed to move the proceedings forward. Notice of the order was officially issued August 6. According to legal documents, Tory Lanez and Chassagne couldn’t seem to keep things moving in the right direction. The judge cited their “failure to bring the action to judgment” within the required time.
Chassagne filed to end the marriage on June 10, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. The filing came less than a year after she and Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, married on June 25, 2023.
The pair share a son, Kai’Lon. Chassagne initially asked the court for legal and physical custody of the child as part of the divorce proceedings. Now, with the case dismissed, those arrangements remain unresolved.
Lanez, 34, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. A jury convicted him in 2022 of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Prosecutors said Lanez shot Megan in the feet following an argument in the Los Angeles area. He pleaded not guilty to the charges before his conviction.
Chassagne filed for divorce shortly before Lanez began serving his sentence. With the petition now dismissed, she would need to take further legal action if she still intends to end the marriage. It’s a complicated situation with real consequences for everyone involved.
