Celebrity legal settlements can drag on forever, but Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller finally called it quits on their child support dispute. After more than a decade of back-and-forth, a Los Angeles judge approved their settlement on July 7.

Here’s the breakdown: Sheen, 60, will pay Mueller $500,000 total. The first $250,000 hits by July 10, with the remaining amount due by September 1. The actor decided weighing “the risk of litigation and costs thereof” made settlement the smarter move than facing “the uncertainties associated with the litigation process.” Smart move, honestly. Sometimes you just gotta cut your losses and keep it moving.

This deal covers their dispute over child support debt and interest dating back to March 2011 through July 1, 2026. Sheen also has to cover $60,000 in Mueller’s legal fees by October 15. The former couple—who share twin sons Bob and Max, now 17—will each handle the boys’ expenses when they’re in their respective care going forward.

Mueller had filed a motion back in December claiming Sheen owed nearly $9 million in unpaid support plus over $6 million in accumulated interest. According to her filing, a 2010 order required him to pay $55,000 monthly, but payments became spotty or stopped entirely starting in July 2011.

Sheen and Mueller married in 2008 and divorced in 2011 after their relationship hit some rough patches. But check this—Mueller recently appeared in Sheen’s Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, where she actually spoke positively about him.

“Charlie really stepped up when my stuff was going dark. And it was really dark,” Mueller shared in the doc. “He had all the reason not to be there for me, ’cause when you’re not in your right mind, you become a terror for other people in your life. And now he’s taken the role of the one who is the responsible protector, especially with the boys.”

Sometimes celebrity legal settlements show us that people can move past their differences and find common ground, especially when kids are involved. That’s what really matters.
